Overall they are easy but it can be time consuming getting everything done and fit back in. That is ALOT to fit into some outlet boxes. Every box required at least 3 of them, and depending on what was going on inside the boxes some required as much as 6. We were using the 3 imput alumicons and they are pretty big. The hardest part is getting everything to fit back into the box. If you feel comfortable with basic electric like changing outlets ect this will be a breeze for you. I did an entire house like my second month as an apprentice (my master electrician was their and i was working under him obviously, but I did the majority of the outlets by myself while he replaced the homes panel. It is very straightforward and very easy. TL DR can I install alumiconn connectors on a home that is currently using wirenuts to repair aluminum wiring? Is this something I can do myself, or should I be hiring an electrician to do the work in order to be doubly sure that it's done properly? I am reaching out to you guys to see if there's something I'm missing or if it really is that straight forward. I saw the connectors are lined with an anti-oxidizing agent so I wouldn't be applying and anti-oxidation grease, and as long as the connections are torqued properly I figured the connections would be technically UL rated. I was wondering if this was something I could do myself, though? I was reading through the installation instructions and frankly it seems incredibly straight forward. I personally would be more comfortable with a more permanent fix and have considered having alumiconn connectors installed instead of the wirenuts. Luckily, the house has already had pigtails installed, but after doing some research I've found that the wirenuts that are present in the house are best seen as a temporary fix despite being UL approved. That being said, my wife and I are looking at buying a house that has aluminum wiring. Thirdly, I've done industrial rewiring work and am comfortable dealing with wires and stripping and connecting. The big similarities between the two fields is that we deal in electricity and they pretty much end there. Second off, I respect that electricians require are an entirely different set of skills.
